A nationwide awareness rally to save our rapidly depleting rivers called "RALLY FOR RIVERS" entered Trichy on 6th of September.
The Rally which was flagged off at Coimbatore on 3rd September, reached Kanyakumari via Madurai on 4th September. The Rally then reached Trivandrum on the 5th of September for a public event and then travelled towards Trichy. He was received and welcomed by the farmers in Trichy.

Early at 6 am Sadhguru had personal interactions with farmer leaders representing major Farmer Organisations of Tamilnadu including Mr Ku.Chellamuthu, President of Tamilnadu farmers Association, Mr. Nel Jayaraman, Mr.Poochi Selvam, Mr.Krishnasamy Vaandayar, Mr.Mannarkudi Ranganathan, Mr.Angels Raja from Vanagam, Mr.Varadarajan of Tamilaga Kaveri Vivasayigal Sangam, Mr.Dhanapal of Cauvery Delta Farmers protection Union and others.
"Rally for Rivers" is a rising movement aimed at reviving and rejuvenating the depleting Rivers of India. A public event to create awareness on “Rally for Rivers” took place at the banks of Cauvery, Oyamari Salai, Trichy, on 6th of September at 7 am.

Shri K Natarajan, Minister for Tourism, Govt of TN, Smt S Valarmathi, Minister for Backward Classes and Minority Welfare, Shri P Kumar, MP Trichy, Shri D R Karthikeyan, Former Director CBI, and Rev Dr Leonard Fernando, St Josephs College, Shri Rajamani IAS, Trichy District Collector, welcomed and shared the dais with Padma Vibhushan Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Foundation.
Thousands of people including Students from schools and colleges, Farmers, Business men, corporate employees, and Soldiers from BSF also participated in this event.

Volunteers have been campaigning in Trichy District for the past one month and creating awareness about the dire state of our perennial rivers and the need for action to save them.

Angels Raja from Nammaalwar’s Vanagam Organisation, appreciated and thanked Isha’s Project Greenhands for distributing seeds and saplings and their continued patronage towards the saplings they plant.
Thanks to Sadhguru’s effort, we have nurseries at every 20 km today. He spoke about how insects that help the crops, the damages caused by the chemical fertilizers, and the trees on the banks would help to store the water and recollected Nammalvar’s vision and appreciated this initiative to revive and restore rivers.
Paddy seeds and tree saplings were given to a few guests. The representatives of the Farmers Associations assured that they would join hands and Rally for the Rivers.

Shri D R Karthikeyan, in his speech appreciated Sadhguru’s knowledge on farming and was sure that Sadhguru would succeed in all his endeavors. He also felt that some of the Government Policies on linking Rivers back fired, but this rally initiative has reached the masses already.
Rev Dr Leonard Fernando spoke that he was pained to see the rivers getting polluted and was happy for organising the event at the banks of the river Cauvery.
Shri Rajamani IAS, Shri P Kumar, MP from Trichy and Smt Valarmathi, MLA and Honourable Minister Shri K Natarajan all appreciated Isha’s work towards mankind through teaching Yoga and other Social Outreach Projects, and assured their support to Sadhguru and wished Rally for Rivers, success. Shri K Natarajan said that he has only seen Sadhguru’s success in all his endeavours.

In his address Sadhguru said that “ revival of rivers has to be approached intellectually and not emotionally. He recollected in his younger days, he swam across Cauveri almost every day and is pained to see that we can walk across the river now. He said that if this continues that all the fishes and other creatures in water will become extinct. He was sad that Ponds in the month of July (rainy season) are so dry that some event happened inside the pond.
He felt happy that the Chief Ministers of all the States that he would be rallying across, wrote and assured their support to Rally for Rivers.
Now a Policy Document has been prepared in consultation with experts in Agriculture which would be presented to the Government. We need to express our support to the Government by giving a missed call to 80009 80009, because it is a long term policy which may take about 20 years to get implemented fully.
This is the Government by the people (Jana nayagam). The people in the Government may change but the Policy has to get implemented. We have been cultivating for more than 12000 years, but agriculture has been destroyed by just one generation.
The strength of the top soil has to be replenished. He quoted the Vietnamese economy increased by 20% by growing fruit trees. They learnt this technique only from Indian Agricultural Universities. We need to understand which is the crop suitable for which kind of soil and do farming accordingly. Each one of us need to act responsibly across political differences.
It is time that we stop playing blame game on each other, all of us work in unity towards the progress of our country. We need to see that Cauveri walks across and we won’t be able to catch up with her if she runs.
